Suzuki Alstare debuts Bio Motorbike

A couple of months back, bikes india carried news of the fuel-cell powered Crosscage concept from Suzuki that is”close to production. Making news this time around are Suzuki’s WSBK partners, Alstare – a company formerly known for their hospitality services for various motorsport teams.

The World Superbike team recently unveiled their first prototype bio-fuel powered Suzuki GSX-R1000 that made its debut at the Monza round of the WSBK championship. The bike runs on environment friendly E85 fuel consisting of 85 percent bio-ethanol and 15 percent petrol.

The prototype, however, met with a tragic launch when a freelance journalist crashed it during the test. Thus, the bio-fuel powered GSX RlOOO couldn’t be evaluated by many. Nonetheless, the bike has proved to be a clear insight into how high-performance machines and race engines too can adapt to environmentally friendly fuel.

The engineers at Alstare have been working closely with their partners Suzuki and fuel-injection system specialists, Magneti Marelli for several years to show this project the light of day. While initial tests were made on a low-cost, low-performance ATV, the trio successfully managed to port this technology onto the higher capacity Gixxer engine.

There are no official plans to mass produce the bio-fuel conversion.

Alstare does have plans to research a bio-diesel powered ATV to cater to developing nations where rising costs of petrol is hampering activities like farming.
